Enhancing Reliability at Copper Cliff No.6 and No.8

In a decisive response to the challenge of modernizing critical infrastructure, BESTECH undertook the Copper Cliff No.6 and No.8 Substation Replacement Studies, showcasing our expertise in delivering smart, integrated solutions. Our innovative approach, which merged the upgrade requirements for both substations, not only optimized costs but also dramatically improved system reliability. This project is a shining example of our ability to navigate complex challenges, transforming outdated systems into robust, modern infrastructures that meet today's high standards. With BESTECH, Vale Canada Limited found not just a solution provider but a strategic partner in driving operational excellence and future readiness.

Vale Canada Limited aimed to increase the reliability of the Copper Cliff No. 6 and No. 8 substations, which were burdened with outdated components, by aligning them with current protection standards.BESTECH conducted comprehensive FEL1, FEL2, and FEL3 studies for both substations, proposing an innovative solution that amalgamated the two substations. This approach not only minimized capital requirements but also significantly enhanced the overall system reliability.

Key Features:

  • Conducting FEL1 and FEL2 studies to explore options like upgrades, replacements, and new locations.
  • Refining the best options to determine the feasibility of replacement or upgrade.
  • Performing FEL3 studies to refine capital cost budgets, complete detailed scopes of work, and define precise design criteria.

Completed between 2014 and 2015, this project significantly improved the reliability of Vale’s substation infrastructure in Sudbury, Ontario. Our solution provided a cost-effective, reliable, and future-proof upgrade, meeting Vale’s stringent standards and operational requirements.
