MINSUR
MINSUR solicited BESTECH to conduct a comprehensive study at the San Rafael mine, and the nearby Nazareth project to evaluate the potential transition from diesel powered to battery electric vehicles (BEV's)
The study was driven by the need to explore BEV-related investment opportunities that could potentially add value to MINSUR’s operations by enhancing efficiency, reducing environmental impact, and improving worker health.
SCOPE
The approach focused on assessing the technical and economic feasibility of integrating BEVs into the mine’s operations. This involved a thorough analysis of the potential for a full or partial fleet conversion, considering various assumptions and parameters. The study examined whether the investment in BEVs was attractive enough to justify further detailed studies and scrutinized the capital and operational expenditure implications of such a transition. Additionally, the study evaluated the potential environmental and health benefits of BEVs, particularly in terms of reducing greenhouse gas emissions and minimizing workers’ exposure to diesel particulate matter.
OUTCOME
The BEV analysis study provided MINSUR with crucial insights into the viability and benefits of adopting electric vehicles in their mining operations. The findings indicated specific investment opportunities in BEVs that were both economically and technically feasible and could significantly enhance operational efficiency. The study also highlighted the environmental and health advantages of adopting BEVs, paving the way for MINSUR to make informed decisions regarding future investments in this technology. As a result, MINSUR is now better equipped to plan for a sustainable future in mining, with detailed strategies for implementing BEVs that support their goals of operational efficiency and reduced environmental footprint.
