Your role as Ventilation Specialist

Job summary

Reporting to the Manager of Mine Engineering Services, as a Ventilation Specialist, you will work closely with our highly energized mining team, with responsibility for designing, evaluating, and managing mine ventilation systems to ensure the optimal functioning of underground mining operations.

Beyond your primary responsibilities in mine ventilation, you will also lead, coordinate, and streamline a diverse array of engineering activities.


Your key accountabilities

Mine Ventilation Design & Implementation

  • Design and update ventilation models using Ventsim software.
  • Conduct ventilation surveys in underground mines and analyze data to optimize systems.
  • Design mine ventilation systems for a variety of mining methods and commodities.
  • Ensure mine ventilation designs comply with regulatory requirements and industry standards.
  • Create specifications for both auxiliary and main ventilation fans, ensuring optimal functionality.

Collaboration & Project Management

  • Coordinate with other engineering disciplines in the design and implementation of ventilation infrastructure.
  • Prepare and interpret drawings, layouts, and visual aids, as well as engineering documentation.
  • Participate in the design and planning phases of projects, considering cost, safety, and operational constraints.
  • Manage project timelines and deliverables, ensuring high-quality project execution.

Client Engagement & Business Development

  • Meet with clients to assess their needs and provide customized ventilation solutions.
  • Contribute to the preparation of capital cost estimates and project proposals.
  • Participate in business development initiatives, identifying new project opportunities.
  • Maintain effective communication with clients throughout project lifecycles.

Professional Development & Innovation

  • Promote and support BESTECH’s core values, embracing new technologies and innovation.
  • Provide technical solutions to complex challenges, driving continuous improvement in ventilation design.
  • Participate in ongoing learning opportunities to enhance technical skills and stay updated with industry trends.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in mining engineering, or related engineering degree. Candidates with a Mining Engineering Technology or related diploma will also be considered.
  • Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience in mine ventilation design.
  • Proficiency in Ventsim software is required.
  • Strong knowledge of AutoCAD and MS Office Suite applications.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel for client site visits.

Type or Salary Range

Full-Time, Permanent (40 hours/week)
