Your role as Electrical Engineering Intern

Job summary

Reporting to the Manager of Electrical Engineering Services, the Electrical Engineering Intern will be working under the guidance and supervision of senior engineers. The Electrical Engineering Intern will assist in designing and analyzing electrical systems for a variety of client projects, conducting site assessments, preparing technical reports, and supporting senior engineers in delivering innovative and cost-effective solutions. They are expected to learn and apply engineering principles, ensure accuracy in their work, and effectively communicate with team members and clients.


Your key accountabilities

  • Technical and Documentation
    • Assist in the design, analysis, and implementation of electrical systems, ensuring compliance with codes, standards, and client requirements.
    • Conduct site inspections, surveys, and assessments to gather data for project designs.
    • Prepare technical drawings, specifications, and reports under the guidance of senior engineers.
    • Perform load calculations, fault analysis, and equipment selection for electrical systems.
    • Support troubleshooting and provide technical solutions to complex engineering problems.
    • Support QAQC (quality assurance quality control) checks as directed.
  • Business Development and Client Management
    • Participate in client meetings to gather technical requirements, providing insights and solutions as needed.
    • Assist in preparing technical proposals, cost estimates, and presentations for prospective clients.
    • Foster relationships with clients by delivering quality work, maintaining professionalism, and responding to inquiries in a timely manner.
    • Support senior engineers in identifying business opportunities.
    • Assists with managing client communications and documentation.
    • Maintain records of client interactions and project updates.
  • Project Coordination and Management
    • Assist project managers in tracking project timelines, budgets, and resources to ensure on-time delivery.
    • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, suppliers, and contractors to ensure smooth project execution.
    • Contribute to progress reports, meeting minutes, and other project documentation.
    • Support the review of project milestones and provide input to improve efficiency.
    • Provides administrative support to project teams.
  • Professional Development
    • Actively pursue professional licensure by meeting EIT requirements and working toward the Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation.
    • Participates in training and certification programs, as required.
    • Attends relevant industry workshops and seminars, as required.
    • Engage in learning opportunities to develop technical and professional skills.

Qualifications

  • A degree in electrical, electronics or power systems engineering is required.
  • Knowledge of industry codes and regulations is required.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD, and Bentley Microstation.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suites applications.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to producing high quality work.
  • Strong commitment to safety, quality, and sustainable design practices.
  • Valid Drivers License is required.

Type or Salary Range

Full-Time, Permanent (40 hours/week)
